SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION

In this article we want to introduce one of the topics that we will deal with later in our following publications. This one is sustainable consumption in the textile industry.

We live in a society which is used to finding easily a great variety of clothes at a very low price, but the truth is that we do not know everything that is behind a garment and its production. However, this is changing because more and more people are aware of the malfunctioning of the conventional fashion industry. Part of what hides the production of conventional clothing is delocalization, bad working conditions and environmental pollution. For all this, there is a solution, sustainable fashion.

Currently there are many designers and brands that work under the criteria of sustainable fashion, they are adapting

to what society demands and thus avoid favoring the textile industry that does so much harm to people and the planet. It is a form to support a type of economy that promotes social, environmental and economic balance.

For this sustainable consumption it is important that the consumer follows some criteria to choose and consume the products you are going to buy in this sector. Some of theme are that human rights have been respected in the manufacture of the garment, that the raw materials are sustainable, that the local economy is promoted or that the garment has been reused.

Although this sector has done so much damage to society and the environment, we can say that it is changing a lot. Thanks to social pressure, more sustainable consumption is being created and companies are listening to this demand and as a result there are more and more actions that try to stop the bad actions of the conventional textile industry and renew them in order to take care of society and the world in which we live.
